The exam consists of the following: PhD students must publish at least one research paper in a peer-reviewed journal and give two paper presentations at conferences/seminars before submitting the paper, providing proof in the form of presentation certificates and/or reprints. Thakur Foundation Scholarships in Public Health and Law: A three-year program sponsored by the Thakur Foundation. This scholarship covers the cost of a laptop, travel expenses to a conference (national/international) and the monthly scholarship for two selected applicants who conduct research at the intersection of health and law. Dr. N. R. Madhava Menon Doctoral Scholarship: A three-year program that annually supports three meritorious students who are admitted to the nlSIU doctoral program. This is a fully funded opportunity that includes annual tuition, monthly scholarships, a laptop, and travel expenses to attend a conference. Applicants must submit regular progress reports on their research throughout their doctoral program. The first report must be submitted within three months of successful completion of the course and subsequent progress reports must be submitted once within six months. Failure to submit a progress report may result in the program being deactivated. All progress reports must be submitted to the Department of Research Credentials, which forwards the report to the supervisor and the Research Advisory Board. The Research Advisory Committee reviews the progress report. Upon admission to the doctoral program, the PGDC assigns each candidate a supervisor after reviewing the field of research, faculty availability, and subject of specialization. Each applicant must submit an application form accompanied by a research proposal of no more than 3500 words.
