We train PILI Fellows to provide legal advice and/or recommendations to program clients through the hotline and also through the after-hours legal advice offices. Fellows have the opportunity to conduct research and legal drafts. Fellows have the opportunity to assist the recruiting lawyer who represents protection orders and other family law matters. CCLA encourages Fellows to accompany us to all legal education programs, bar association meetings, and Catholic Charities Advisory Board meetings to familiarize each fellow with the program, the broader Catholic charity, and the wider legal aid community. For 30 years, the Catholic Charities Legal Network has provided pro bono legal services, general information, access to pro bono lawyers and law firms, and referrals to other appropriate legal services organizations. The Catholic Charities Legal Network focuses on low-income families and individuals whose income is equal to or less than 200 percent of the U.S. poverty guidelines. In addition, CCLA offers a variety of legal counselling services in the Chicago area each month and periodically organizes educational seminars. CCLA provides representation in protection orders and other family law matters for immigrant women who are victims of domestic violence or other violent crimes. CCLA also organizes educational seminars on legal issues for the general public at various Locations of Catholic charities. In addition, CCLA operates three monthly after-hours legal advisory offices at various Catholic charity locations.
