During the 19th century, the Court of Owls had agreements with Alan Wayne of Wayne Enterprises. Alan and his shop rebuilt much of Gotham`s architecture, with the secret hiding places of the court building throughout the city, often on the thirteenth floor, uninhabited by superstition. The court made enemies of Alan when he learned of their more important plans and their mass influence drove him crazy. In December 1922, Alan ran through the streets of Gotham like crazy before being dragged through a manhole blanket, tortured through the maze, and murdered with multiple stab wounds. The court later claimed that the death was due to the fall to the sewers. The members of this Illuminati-type organization come from the richest, oldest, and most powerful families in Gotham, and they have controlled crime in Gotham for centuries. They meet in hidden rooms planted all over the city, and when they hold the courtyard, they wear frightening-looking white owl masks on their faces. Meanwhile, the court planned a larger project, stating that they had mined Dionesium earlier, but that the Joker was purer. When Batman concluded that they should fight Joker, the court stated that Gotham was bigger than any of them and that Joker`s destruction of the city wouldn`t really hurt them, as it would only kill the general public and not the court. Batman then fired the court leaders and sought out his Heel, Uriah Boone, to question the Joker`s origins.
The myth of the owl court is as old, if not older, than Gotham City itself. The court has separated from the tribe of Judah, a cult that worships a cosmic bat deity named Barbatos. Some members of the court believed that they could summon Barbatos by chemically modifying a member of the House of Wayne chosen by Barbatos with five metals from their world. Members of the court dressed in white owl masks and often hid owls in their clothes, architecture, and live owls around allies and enemies to refer to their operation. The existence of the courtyard and its claws has been passed down from generation to generation in the form of an old Gotham City nursery rhyme: “Beware of the owl court, which looks all the time and rules Gotham from a shady perch behind granite and lime. They look at you at your stove, they look at you in your bed, they don`t say a whispered word about them, or they send you the heel for your head. As the Joker tried to end his relationship with Batman, he unleashed a Dionesium-based virus on Gotham and planted a series of photographs that implicated him as an immortal figure in the history of Gotham City. After Dionesium and Joker`s alleged links to the Gotham story by the virus engineer, Dr. Paul Dekker, Batman sneaked into the maze of the courtyard to get information from them. Later, as Batman, Bruce sought answers about how the Heel found his way into the old Wayne Tower. He insulted a group of Ukrainian criminals called the “Whispering Gang” in the subway, beat them all and demanded to know how the Talon entered the tower, because the section of the railway lines they controlled was the only possible secret way to enter the building. After an argument with half a dozen other members, the Whisper Gang member who remained in Batman`s presence couldn`t give Bruce an answer on how someone could get into the tower.
After narrowly escaping from a trap in one of the old bases of the court, Bruce exhumes the body of his ancestor Alan Wayne. Alan was afraid to death of owls in the last years of his life, many people thought he was paranoid. He was suspected of having been killed by the owl court for scolding owls who were chasing him in the days before his death. At the time, however, no one believed him and dismissed his fears as the effects of senility. When Batman enters the sewers to investigate where Alan`s body was found, and while his back was closed, the heel suddenly appeared and fell. Some of gotham`s wealthiest and most connected families formed the Court of Owls. For centuries, they used their power and influence to reverse the course of politics and control the city according to their plans, often resorting to the use of highly skilled assassins called Heels to achieve their infamous goals. Who was the first villain of this new New 52 Batman comic? The court of owls. In 2011, DC decided to revive its entire superhero universe and give each prominent member of the Justice League a new origin story. The controversial New 52 initiative gave the authors a white vest with which they reinvented and reshaped the heroes, villains and classic scenarios, for better or for worse.
However, when DC decided to restart its universe, they had a big problem: Batman was one of the longest comic book lines, with a continuity that hadn`t been touched since the first Dark Knight story, published in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. DC didn`t want to erase all of Batman`s great plots, like Alan Moore`s The Killing Joke, Jason Todd`s death, and Bruce Wayne`s relationship with Talia al Ghul. So they made the strange decision to keep every important event of seven decades of Batman comic book canon and reorganize everything that had happened just three years before the New 52 reboot. He refused to put forward the idea that there was an old organization pulling the strings of Gotham, believing that no one knew the city better than he did. However, during a meeting with Gotham`s mayoral candidate, Lincoln March, he was warned by Lincoln that an old evil had returned to Gotham, awakened by the ambitious new plans for the city that Bruce had promoted. Almost immediately, Talon got out of an elevator, leaving behind two deceased security guards. After dipping a knife into Lincoln`s chest, Talon attacked Bruce.
The Talon managed to stab Bruce several times, and although he eventually put his arm around Talon`s neck, Bruce was unable to suffocate the assassin, even though he used more than enough force. Bruce was stunned at the thought that the heel would not go down, even after using more than ten times the force needed to crush a human trachea. Talon threw Bruce out of the window of the old Wayne Tower and jumped after him, claiming that he “likes to kill Waynes.” Bruce managed to catch a gargoyle on the way down and shake the heel that hit the road below. The EMTs picked up the seemingly dead body, but soon after, the heel`s body came back to life, killing the people who had thrown it into a morgue and reinforcing the idea that the heel is immortal. The Court of Owls will appear as the main villain of Gotham Knights in 2022, so here`s what you need to know about this dangerous enemy and the impressive addition to Batman`s gallery of thugs. The Batman is about to finally hit theaters, and like the infamous planner of the future Dark Knight himself, fans and stars of the film are turning to the villains for a possible sequel – with Robert Pattinson, the new Bruce Wayne/Batman, citing the enigmatic and evil Court of Owls as his personal choice. The Wayne family was one of the Cabal`s longtime rivals.
